Plana Principal

Municipality in the eastern part of el Baix Penedès, bordering with l'Alt Camp ( region to which Masllorenç belonged to until 1990).

The township takes up 6.6km2 and includes the neighbourhood of Masarbonès and also the recently built housing estate la Font d'en Talló. It is a rugged territory located on the southern spurs of la Serra de Montmell with an average altitude of 270-280 metres. The soil is karstic and argilaceous which makes it barren and hard to work on. The vegetation is characterized by brush woods and the cultivated soil is planted with vine, olive and almond trees. Before 1956, the chief crops were carob and olive trees but, the severe frosts in that year made the importance of these growings diminish.

Our town's economy is mostly based on agriculture. Lately though, agriculture has been seriously damaged due to the aging of the peasantry and the hardship this sector is going through (that has put off the young people in town).

Until halfway through this century, there were some furniture factories. In the seventies, new companies set up in Masllorenç such as awning and sport articles.

In the service industry it is important to mention the furniture stores and the highway rest area 'Alt Camp' that provide work for many people in Masllorenç.
